The questions students ask us most.
Setup, school platforms, UniMind, lecture transcription, pricing and privacy — answered in one place. Can’t find yours? Write to us.
What is UniKnow?
UniKnow (formerly UniFlow Study) is a desktop study app for university students on Mac and Windows. It connects to your school’s LMS (such as Canvas or Moodle) and turns your course materials into a library you can search and ask about. In class, it transcribes English lectures live with a Chinese translation under each line, and its AI assistant, UniMind, answers from your own course materials with sources. Connecting your school and importing every course is free.

Getting started & platforms
Where it runs, how to install it, and which languages it speaks.
Is UniKnow the same as UniFlow Study?
Yes. UniFlow Study was the old name — the product was renamed UniKnow in October 2026, and the desktop app uses the new name from version 1.3.4.
Which computers does it run on?
Mac: macOS 13 or later, with separate installers for Apple silicon and Intel, notarized by Apple. Windows: Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). Download and install details are on UniKnow for Mac and UniKnow for Windows.
Is there a phone app or a web version?
There’s no phone app yet. On the web, you can sign in and chat with UniMind in your browser; connecting your school, lecture transcription and everything else happen in the desktop app.
Is the app available in Chinese?
Yes. You can switch the interface between English and Simplified Chinese any time, and set UniMind’s reply language separately — Chinese, English, or whatever language you ask in.
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. Is that normal?
Yes. The Windows installer isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may step in. As long as you downloaded it from uniknow.ai, click “More info” → “Run anyway”.

School platforms
Which schools it connects to, what comes in, and how often it syncs. See supported platforms →
Which school platforms does it support?
Canvas and Moodle today. Blackboard is coming soon and can’t be connected yet; Brightspace (D2L) isn’t supported.
Each account connects to one school platform at a time. Switching platforms clears the old platform’s course data.
My school isn’t on the list. What now?
The built-in list has 470+ schools. If yours isn’t there, enter your school’s Canvas or Moodle address and connect anyway. If you run into trouble, tell us your school and we’ll look into it.
Do I need an API token or admin approval?
No. Canvas reads your courses through the session you sign in with in the built-in browser. Moodle uses its official mobile-app sign-in, so there’s no token to paste — as long as your school has Moodle’s mobile services on (they’re on by default for Moodle 3.0 and later on HTTPS).
You only need something extra if you want syncing to continue while the app is closed: optional cloud sync. For Canvas, that means generating a personal access token and pasting it in.
What gets imported?
Canvas: syllabus, assignments (due dates, points, instructions, attachments, submission status and scores), discussions, pages, modules, files, Classic Quizzes, announcements and grades. Moodle: course sections and activities, files, assignments, quizzes, grades with feedback, forums and pages.
Text from PDF, Word (.docx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) files up to 50 MB each is extracted so it can be searched. Scanned PDFs and legacy .ppt files can’t be read yet.
How often does it sync?
Canvas: every 6 hours while the app is open, plus any time you hit refresh. Moodle: when you refresh. To keep things updated while the app is closed, turn on cloud sync and our server syncs every 6 hours (Canvas needs a personal access token, which some schools disable).

UniMind
Where it looks for answers, which language it answers in, and what it can do for you. About UniMind →
How is UniMind different from ChatGPT and other chatbots?
UniMind looks for answers in your own course materials first — eight kinds: files, pages, assignments, announcements, discussions, syllabus, quizzes and lecture transcripts — plus anything you saved with “Summarize this page”. Click a citation in the answer and the source opens in the app, so you can check it.
Can I ask in Chinese and get answers in Chinese?
Yes. Set the reply language to Chinese, English, or whatever language you ask in. Set your English level to Beginner or Intermediate and it adds Chinese explanations next to technical terms. More on the international students page.
Which AI model does it use? Can I choose?
Models are configured centrally, so you can’t pick one; the providers we use include OpenAI, DeepSeek, Google Gemini and Anthropic. You can adjust how hard it thinks: Auto, Light, Standard or Deep.
Can I send files to UniMind?
Yes. Attach PDFs, DOCX and TXT files, images and more, up to 20 MB each; attachments uploaded to the cloud are kept for 180 days. You can also attach past lecture transcripts or assignments, or ask by voice.
Can UniMind add calendar events or organize assignments?
Yes. It can create calendar events, schedule study time, and organize assignments and notes. Anything that changes your data shows a confirmation card first, only runs once you confirm, and can be undone.

Lecture transcription & notes
Languages, audio sources, minutes, and the notes you get after class. About live lecture transcription →
Which languages does lecture transcription support?
It’s built for lectures taught in English: it recognizes English and translates into Chinese. Other language pairs aren’t available.
Does it work for online or recorded lectures?
Yes. Choose “Screen audio” as the source and it transcribes whatever your computer is playing — Zoom, Teams or a recorded video. In the lecture hall, choose “Microphone”.
How many minutes can I transcribe?
You get 100 minutes when you sign up, valid for 90 days. After that, Starter includes 350 minutes a month, Pro 3,500 and Max is unlimited. Need more? Time packs start at $5 and last 180 days — Free accounts can buy them too.
What are class notes, and which plans include them?
When a transcription ends, click “Generate” and in about 1–3 minutes you get structured notes: overview, outline, terms and formulas, homework and exam hints, key points and common mistakes, and self-check questions — each linked back to the transcript. You need at least 60 seconds of recording.
Available on every plan, including Free: each generation (regenerating included) uses 2 AI credits, and your first one is free. You can also turn on live notes, which build as the lecture goes on, for 5 credits an hour; the first 60 minutes of your first class are free, and the full notes at the end of that class use no credits. Max has unlimited credits; every Sunday evening it also rolls the week’s notes into a review for each course. See AI lecture notes.
Can I export transcripts? Does it label speakers?
You can export an archive with a timestamped bilingual transcript (Markdown) and the lecture recording. It doesn’t label speakers — everything is kept in one timeline, in the order it was said.

Plans & billing
What’s free, what each plan costs, the student offer and cancelling. See pricing →
What does the free plan include?
Connecting your school and importing courses, with no course limit; 5 AI credits a month; and 100 minutes of lecture transcription when you sign up (valid for 90 days). No credit card needed.
How much do the plans cost?
Starter is $5.99 a month (50 AI credits and 350 transcription minutes a month), Pro is $9.99 (300 AI credits and 3,500 minutes a month) and Max is $19.99 (unlimited AI credits and transcription; on monthly billing you can try it for 3 days for $0.99). Each message to UniMind uses 1 credit, each set of lecture notes uses 2, and live notes use 5 an hour.
Pro and Max can be billed yearly, which works out to $7.50 and $14.67 a month; Starter is monthly only. Details on the pricing page.
Is there a student discount?
Student offers run from time to time, and none is open right now. While one is running, you can verify with your school email or student ID and get full Pro free for 30 days — no card, no charge when it ends, one per student. Watch the student page for the next one.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Sign in on the website, go to the Billing page and click “Cancel subscription”. You keep your plan until the end of the current billing period, then your account returns to the free plan.
Can I get a refund?
You can request one. See our refund policy for the conditions and time limits.
How do I pay?
Payments are handled by Stripe, which accepts major credit and debit cards; your card number never passes through us. Some earlier subscriptions are still handled by Creem, and those appear on statements as “CREEM* UNIFLOW” or similar.

Privacy & security
Passwords, where data lives, and who processes it. Read the full privacy & security page →
Can UniKnow see my school password?
No. You type your password into your school’s own login page, and UniKnow only keeps you signed in on your computer, like a browser does. Moodle tokens are encrypted with your system keychain.
Will it change anything on my school’s platform?
No. Importing only reads — it never submits work, posts or changes anything.
Where is my data stored? Can anyone else see it?
The text of your course materials, your chats and your transcripts sync to your UniKnow account, isolated per account so no other user can read them. Lecture recordings and sign-in sessions stay on your computer. The full picture is on privacy & security.
Do you sell my data?
No. AI answers, speech recognition, translation and payments are processed by third parties, all listed on the privacy & security page.

Account & support

Do I need a school email to sign up?
No — any email works. Your school email is only used to verify you if you claim the student offer.
How do I delete my account?
You can’t do it in the app yet. Email support@uniknow.ai and we’ll delete your account and cloud data as described in our privacy policy.
Just want one course gone? Remove it in the app and its cloud data is deleted too.
How do I contact you?
